Being local and never had Steins takeaway before we saw the forgotten fish and chips on the menu at the excellent price of 11 . Fish was pouting and was lovely, plenty to eat, chips not greasy and tasty, tartar sauce homemade and delicious. After reading the reviews I was pleasantly surprised. Will use again and definitely try the next forgotten fish on the menu.

"The fish and chips were absolutely outstanding—crispy, golden batter with perfectly cooked fish, accompanied by fluffy chips that hit the spot. The staff truly elevated the experience; they were warm, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. It's rare to find a place where both the food and the service are equally fantastic. Highly recommended!"

We enjoyed our visit to Stein's fish and chip restaurant in Padstow this evening. We were celebrating my wife's birthday. We chose the 4 fish sharing platter and it was excellent. The fish was very nicely cooked, and the dish was a good size for two people. We were both warm after quite a lot of walking throughout the day so we both chose a coke zero with ice and lemon to drink with our meal. We've eaten here a few times in the past and this was probably our favourite visit. The restaurant itself was not too busy with most tables with either 2s or 3s. Our waitress was welcoming and polite and looked after us throughout our meal. Well done all.

A lot of wait, but it is worth it. The fish and chips is absolutely delicious, especially the hake! Mashed peas are very good too.

The Rick Stein takeaway fish and chips get very mixed reviews so we were cautious...but we needn't have been! Service on a Sunday at 17.30 was quick and efficient. Super chunky cod in tasty batter. Certainly not greasy. Good chips, reasonable portion too. Price? Just shy of 20 each. Yes, not cheap but, hey! this is Padstow! What do you expect! Enjoy them, we did!

Blinking lovely. Went when I was ten. Came back when I was thirty. Was asking myself “will those chips be as good as they were in 2005?”. Couldn’t sleep I was thinking so much about it. Sensational chips and the ‘forgotten fish’ was definitely not forgettable, for all the right reasons. Some genuinely predatory seagulls nearby but this isn’t Rick’s fault. 5/5

During my visit to Rick Stein’s Fish and Chip shop in Padstow, I was impressed by the entire experience. The service was fast, friendly, and efficient; my order of cod and chips arrived quickly, perfectly hot, and ready to enjoy. The cod was exceptionally fresh, with a smooth, delicate flavor that paired well with crispy, golden chips. The mushy peas and tartar sauce had a unique, delightful twist that added to the meal’s appeal. The cleanliness of the restaurant was also noteworthy. Everything was spotless, from the tables to the menus—no sticky fingerprints or smudges anywhere, which added to the overall impression of quality and care. For dessert, I had a chocolate brownie. Although it appeared quite simple on the plate, the taste was outstanding—rich and satisfying. In my opinion, this was great value for money, and I would highly recommend Rick Stein’s Fish and Chip shop to anyone visiting Padstow.

Had to wait maybe 20-25 minutes for a table but was worth it as I was rewarded with my first real fish & chips in many years thanks to this place's gluten free batter! Happy to say it was delicious, as was the fish itself and the chips. My family really enjoyed their (gluten containing) meals too, particularly the sole goujons. Only slight disappointment was the gravy which compared to the rest of the meal was a bit bland but it did not detract from the meal at all as it was all so tasty. Service was efficient given how busy they were and the drinks selection was good too.
